SYNOPSIS

After years of self sabotage, numbing and avoidance, a sliding doors moment changed the trajectory of Bryce’s life forever, leading him on an extensive path to self discovery. Harnessing the power of breathwork not only opened up a whole new world but gave him a completely different perspective to managing his mental health and reclaiming his life.

It wasn’t until Bryce began to heal the trauma of his past, that he realised so many other men just like him were suffering in silence and he was in a rare position to create a positive change.

PROBLEM

Having worked in the construction and mining industries for almost 20 years, Bryce knew first hand the type of culture that still exists around men showing vulnerability. Seven men die by suicide in Australia every day, and most men never seek help. After witnessing too many mates and colleagues struggle with mental health and suicide, Bryce knew something had to change. But communicating his own story in a way that resonated with an industry that is typically hesitant to engage in discussions about mental health, was a huge challenge. He needed a resource which would make an immediate impact on his audience, in order to quickly gain trust, break down these stigmas and show the power of breathwork in a way that felt relatable, rather than confronting. His workshops were already making a difference, but were lacking a tool that could easily introduce his mission with clarity, authenticity, and emotional depth - one that would encourage men to feel comfortable, keep an open mind, and try something different.

SOLUTION

We produced a short film that has become a cornerstone of Bryce’s work, intimately detailing his childhood trauma and in turn giving other men permission to feel, process and heal through new ways of managing their mental health, without having to verbalise what they’re going through or put it into words. Through a raw and cinematic storytelling approach, we captured moments with Bryce over a 6 month period, creating space for his audience, men in particular, to see themselves in his story.

The film will also be a key component in Bryce’s workshops as a backdrop of what’s to come, simultaneously sharing his own vulnerability and instantly cultivating a safe space for his participants to do the same. The project was supported by a suite of other social media videos which included teasers to drive engagement around the launch of the film, simple breathwork practices that can be done at home, testimonials and personal experiences from the perspective of participants, and a mini series around the benefits of breathwork for men, particularly in the construction and mining industries.

At a very personal level, Bryce says the production and release of the film has contributed deeply to his own healing journey, and allowed him to fully let go and move forward into the next phase of greatness in both his life and his career.
