RECYCLING THE FUTURE
Lotus Energy
Tony & Josh from Lotus Energy pride themselves on being a disrupter in the recycling industry. But their biggest driver is creating a more sustainable future for their kids.
From humble beginnings, this family owned business was on a mission to open people’s minds to solar power, in a time where renewable energy was seen as more like science fiction.
With a sole focus on environment, sustainability and recycling, Tony & Josh are determined to make their mark on the world for the better and are changing the entire landscape of the recycling industry, one solar panel at a time.
SYNOPSIS
PROBLEM
The recycling industry has a stigma of being untrustworthy with 43% of Australians in 2023 believing their waste won’t be recycled properly. With the collapse of soft plastics recycling and a barrage of negative industry media only adding to the skepticism, the industry needs greater transparency, ensuring people know their recycling efforts truly make a difference, to rebuild the confidence of the community. Additionally, the solar industry is struggling to find an adequate solution for disposing of expired solar panels.

APPROACH
Before diving into the sustainable practices that Lotus have in place to combat some of these challenges, we believed it was important to show the human side of the business through the fun loving relationship of Josh & Tony and the fact that their ‘why’ ran much deeper than their passion for recycling. Their biggest motivation was to create a better world for their kids and the next generation. This ethos is complemented with shots of their kids at the factory, assisting to weave the family run business element into their story.
The brand story film took us on a journey from their factory in Victoria, to solar farms across NSW. We not only showcased the evolution of Lotus Energy into the only operational solar recycling facility in Australia, but how they are redefining the reputation of the industry through things like an open door policy, and technology that can solve the waste issues that Australians are facing. This was backed by their efforts of having the highest recovery rate in the world for solar panel recycling.
We also produced a number of social media assets to support their brand story film, which debunked some common myths about recycling, and what the boys are doing to change the landscape of the industry. The entire creative covered some serious topics but with a lighthearted twist that shone naturally through a casual yet informative style interview.
